The Center for Research and Training in Neurosurgery (CIEN) is a Colombian non-profit organization affiliated with five leading university hospitals, which aims to promote research projects and fulfill the formation of future neurosurgeons.
CIEN is the leading neurosurgery laboratory in Latin America. It has several lines of research and training strategies, including a vascular microsurgery laboratory, endovascular simulations system, skull base laboratory, cadaveric specimens and anatomical models, spinal surgery simulation models and deformity software.

History

The CIEN was created on May 2018 at the “Hospital Universitario de la Samaritana” in Bogota, Colombia, it was created in honor of Dr. Jesús María Neissa, a neurosurgeon who graduated from the University of New York, the precursor of Colombian neurosurgery and the founder of the Department of Neurosurgery at “Hospital Universitario Samaritana.”
Affiliated Hospitals

The "Hospital de la Samaritana" is an Academic Health Center which cares for more than 2.9 million Colombians from 116 towns and cities, especially vulnerable, low-income, and rural populations. It is located in the Department of Cundinamarca, The hospital received Health Quality Accreditation from The "MInisterio de Salud y Protección Social" and the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards (Icontec). Likewise, it has been certified by the "Ministerio de Educación" as a University Hospital as it is affiliated with 23 Colombian academic institutions. It has the largest number (18) of research groups recognized by the "Ministerio de Ciencias, Tecnología e Innovación" including the Center for Research and Training in Neurosurgery (CIEN).
